Saturday was a great day for a bike ride, the day started refreshingly cool as we rolled out from City Park at 7:50 AM with 14 riders. We rolled past the water stop fully stocked and supported, not for our ride, but the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer run later in the day on the LSU campus. We made it out of town with a communal sigh that there were no flats, after passing through several “rubbish zones”

At the ferry, we met the C paced riders, where we would all have a chance to ride together, and picked up 3 more century route riders. We arrived PLENTY early for the 9:15 transit across the Mississippi, however after releasing the cars from the Plaquemine side, the gangway ramp was lifted, and the fire hoses came out. It was our luck that this was the time for the once a month fire drill. By 9:35, the hoses were emptied and folded, ramp lowered and we boarded the “New Roads”. (see photos)
