Great Rides For Spring!
** A note from our President
————————————————————
Word on the Streets: We will try to keep every one updated on road and path improvements from time to time. Paving continues on River Road with nearly the entire length to Ben Hur freshly repaved. No updates on levee path extensions as crews are still adding to the levee near the split. Work on a levee path trailhead at Florida Street downtown is underway and work on the downtown Greenway should start soon. The entire Ward’s Creek path is paved from Bluebonnet to Siegen Lane but a connecting bridge about halfway down has not yet been finished. If you have questions about a road or path or noticed concerns that need to be addressed, please let us know! Email Chris Clark at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .
Bike Month: April is Bike Month in the Baton Rouge Region and we are encouraging everyone to see how great the free secure bike corrals are at local festivals! Bike BR, the BRBC and other groups are teaming up to encourage everyone to leave the car at home for great festivals like Fest for All, Blues Fest, Earth Day, and Live After Five. More information will be available soon!
Kidical Mass: Bring the family to a fun safe ride led by certified cycling instructors the last weekend of each month. Kidical Mass is a national movement designed to help families see how fun and easy it can be to ride bikes together. Previous BRBC Kidical Mass riders had a great time visiting Mike the tiger and searching for (and finding!) the Bald Eagle on the levee. All kids big enough to ride without training wheels (or at least carried in a trailer or a tag-along) are welcome and helmets are required for all kids. Next ride is scheduled for March 30th. We will leave from the parking lot across from the Vet School corner of River Road and Skip Bertman and ride to Mike the tiger’s cage and back with some fun events in between!
Mardi Gras: Save those beads for next year! Make plans now to ride your bike in a parade with the BRBC next Mardi Gras. More info to follow later in the year!
Repair Tip: Keep your spare tube and CO2 in a sock in your seat bag. That way you have something to wipe you hands off with once you’re done changing your flat! Keep an eye out for BRBC repair classes coming soon.
Thanks,
Chris
** Red Bug Hill Challenge:
Registration is OPEN!
————————————————————
Hello, Friends,
Please join us for the fifth annual Red Bug Hill Challenge for Spina Bifida on May 10, 2014. This event is held in memory of our son Jordy. In 2013 you helped us raise over $25,000.00 for children in Louisiana with Spina Bifida. The events include bike rides of 60, 40, 20, and 5 miles; a 5K trail run, and a 1-mile fun run. Everyone also has the option of taking the “Red Bug Hill Challenge, a timed event from the bottom to the top of the famous Red Bug Hill. As in previous years, we will have a great lunch, music, and a raffle with many nice items, including a bicycle. We hope you can join us for a fun day in the beautiful hills of the Felicianas.
Thanks!
Marie and Mike Rourke
